About the workshop:

If a nonprofit is to be financially viable in today’s competitive marketplace, it must create and then implement a sound development plan. In this session we will learn how to create a comprehensive plan that is clear and actionable. The session will provide participants with real tools to develop their own development plans, and will cover the following topics followed by discussion and questions:

• Background and Context
• The Importance of a Diversified Program
• Tools and Resources
• Creating the Plan
• Tracking and Evaluating the Plan
• Renewing and Updating the Plan

About the Presenter: 

Kimberly Sterling is the president of Sterling Associates, a Houston-based consulting firm serving non-profit organizations. She began her development career in Houston in 1984 after working for Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in New York and Houston, and in 1988 began working as a consultant to non-profits. Her firm works in partnership with non-profit institutions, providing a wide range of services, including capital and endowment campaign planning and management, strategic planning, program development, board development, and communications.

Although she and her team have worked with more than 100 organizations, a few notable client projects have included capital and endowment campaigns for DePelchin Children’s Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Contemporary Arts Museum, the Foundation for Jones Hall, the Children’s Museum of Houston, Star of Hope Mission, and the Alley Theatre.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Sterling is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston. She has served on a variety of community boards, is the past president of the Board of Directors of AIDS Foundation Houston, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Episcopal Health Charities. She is an elder of First Presbyterian Church.  In 2004 she was named the Fundraising Professional of the Year by the Houston chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and she is a frequent speaker at nonprofit conferences and training programs.

Ms. Sterling received her BA from Williams College and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. Her husband, David, is a senior partner with Baker & Botts, LLP. They have three children.

Mailed checks must be postmarked by Tuesday, July 28, 2009.  All checks should be made payable to Houston Arts Alliance.  Deadline for all credit card registrations is 12pm Friday, July 31, 2009.  At that time your registration is confirmed only if you have completed both your online registration and faxed the completed Workshop Registration Sheet with billing information to 713.630.5210.
